Recent DC Cobras sporting results
As Season 1 comes under wraps, let's dive into how DC is faring amongst our sports rivals!
September and October flew by, and our sports students have instantly returned to representing Discovery College in the ISSFHK and ACAMIS tournaments. From Years 7 to 12, volleyball to rugby, HK Island to our backyard pitches, let's take a look into the who-what-where's of our Cobras.
Football
U14 Boys
The U14 boys have been going strong in all their matches in ISSFHK, winning 5 and drawing 1 out of 7 matches. Our young Cobras have already scored a grand total of 21 goals! As you can tell, team synergy is off the charts.
Best matches so far:
5-0 Harrow
4-1 DBIS
7-1 KGV
Lets cheer as they scale up the ranks!
U14 Girls
Similar to the boys, the U14 Girls have bared their fangs and are ready to defend. In a total of 7 intense matches, they’ve won 4 games, and drawn 2. Of these 7 games, here are some of the closest results:
3-2 ICS
3-2 GSIS
1-0 CDNIS
1-0 IS
May your shots strike the enemy’s goal with venom!
Volleyball
U16 Girls
Our Year 10s and 11s have worked hard and played hard! They’ve won all six matches so far, which currently puts them at the top of the table for ISSFHK. They’ve beaten Christian Alliance International School, Australian International School HK, Hong Kong Academy, HKIS and YMCA. Afterwards, the girls celebrated with some well-deserved pizza!
When asked about the matches, the girls responded, “Very fun. Coach paid for pizza afterwards”.
Wish them luck for their next match in the Semi-Finals! Scheduled for Nov 4th.
U20 Boys
Our reigning ACAMIS volleyball champs have been getting in on the action too. Winning half their matches, the team was able to win against ICS, CIS, and Harrow with 2-0 sets.
Their final upcoming match is against CAIS next week, best of luck Cobras!
U20 Girls
Volleyballers from Years 12 to 13 have also been contending in the ISSFHK tournament. Playing some tough matches, the team scored a win against West Island School 2-0 last Wednesday the 16th. On the same matchday, they were unfortunately defeated by Sha Tin College, but the team had some positive chit chat afterwards.
“Despite a loss, we have learned a lot from this game! Everyone has started to work well together as a team, and we can see the confidence growing in each player”
Let's put the past behind us, and keep our serpent heads up for the next matches!
ACAMIS
We are thrilled to announce that Discovery College will be hosting the Volleyball tournament for ACAMIS this year; from October 31st to November 2nd, 2024.
Both boys and girls U20 teams will battle it out in a 3 day joust against the Green Division, consisting of 5 international schools from both HK and China: Hangzhou International School, Yew Chung International School, Shanghai Community International School, Xi'an Liangjiatan International School, and Changchun American International School.
The tournament will be held at our DC campus and Peng Chau Sports Center, with teams rotating across Days 1-3. Since the events run for the whole day, make sure to slither on by to support both our Cobra teams next Thursday and Friday!
Rugby Union
U20 Boys
After a lot of hassle with organising and postponing match dates, our U20’s played 3 matches in the Rugby Union league so far. With tough losses against SIS and Kellet to begin with, our tactical Cobras were able to slide back into the pit against Harrow International School. Scoring 3 touchdowns and 2 tries, the team is hungry for more.
“Great.” The team said, recounting the recent match against HKIS. “It was fun, we went to Maccas after”.
The next out of many matches is against Harrow & Australian International School. Knock ‘em dead Cobras!
Netball
U16 Girls
Giving it their all, our Year 10s & 11s have competed in 6 matches against the toughest of the tough in the ISSFHK Netball. Unfortunately, the girls were placed in the wrong division, leading to an imbalance of performance levels among teams. Despite being put against stronger teams, the girls kept their heads high, managing to score points in every match, and having fun even in moments of defeat.
“Our closest match was a 1 point difference against Island School,” the girls said. “Yeah, although we didn’t win, we still had fun together, and at least got to learn from the best.”
Great job netballers! Play with the spirit of the serpent.
*An invitational ACAMIS tournament will be held on November 9th for HS Netball
Swimming
Our Mixed Cobra Swim team hasn’t been forgotten either. Along with weekly team training on Mondays after school, the team individuals are getting ready to attend more competitions this year. Despite no competitory action just yet, our Cobras will swim to the top when it's time. Break a leg Cobras!
Here are a few of the invitational tournaments upcoming:
ACAMIS Senior Swimming (Ages 13-19), Dec 5th-7th 2024
ACAMIS Junior Swimming (Ages 9-12), March 21st-23rd 2025
